Biography
Born in 1958 in Rustenburg South Africa, Guy du Toit is widely acclaimed as one of the country's most accomplished and innovative contemporary sculptors. He graduated from the University of Pretoria with a distinction in sculpture. For nearly 20 years, he has exhibited his work in South Africa and abroad. Many of du Toit's bronzes, including all of those exhibited with Zuva Gallery, are once-off originals that are not reproduced in editions. His current subject matter focuses on the complexities of identity and self-awareness in today's tumultuous world. Often, a stout man is depicted wearing only a toga loosely resembling the South African flag. These pieces are imbued with du Toit's cutting humor and keen sense of current events. Du Toit currently teaches art part-time at the University of Pretoria and works full-time from his studio in Swavelpoort, South Africa.
