| Biography Born in 1967 in Nyanga in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, Gedion Nyanhongo comes from a family of famous sculptors that includes his sister Agnes and his father Claude. After moving from Nyanga to the crowded Harare township of Chitungwiza, Gedion worked tirelessly to hone the more traditional neo-figurative style of his mentor, the late Joseph Ndandarika, who was once deemed the next Henry Moore by an established art critic in London. For more than a decade, Gedion has refined this style and has made it his own - marked by fully animated human, animal and spiritual figures. Complex and often hidden cultural themes emerge from his work, revealing Gedion's remarkable ability to chronicle the contemporary landscapes of both urban and rural Africa. Elegantly sculpted facials features, hands and flowing hair highlight many of Gedion's masterpieces, making his work some of the most striking contemporary sculpture being created in the world today. Now working from his beautiful home in the Harare suburb of Hatfield, Gedion has established himself a major world talent, spending long periods away from Zimbabwe at regular exhibitions in Europe and America. Zuva Gallery has worked closely with Gedion since 1996, and he regularly visits us for one-man exhibitions in Arizona.
